Proverbs 18:20 "Words satisfy the soul as food satisfies the stomach; the right words on a person's lips bring satisfaction."

My people we need to be mindful of what we listen to. Words are power. As Proverbs 18:20 tells us, words are food for the soul.

Be conscious of the words you are allowing to take root in your mind?

5:1 Ratio

Two gentlemen by the names of John Gottman and Robert Levenson conducted a study aimed at understanding the wieght of negative words in relation to positive words. What they found is: for every negative word, you will need a minimum of 5 positive words to counterbalance the effects of the negative word. Crazy right?

Upon reading the above study it became clearer to me than ever before how important it is to pay close and carefull attention to what and who I was lending my ears to. Truth is, it is not always easy to control what we hear especially when we are in the company of others. It does, however, make a huge difference when we become conscious of the dangers to our mental space that come from every negative word we take in. In that way, we can take the necessary steps towards counteracting the effects of the negative words/encounters etc. One sure way I have come to know that helps to do this is reading the word of God.

Hebrews 4:12 NIV

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

The word of God is life giving. It is uplifting and encouraging to the mind, and body of those who allow themselves to surrender to it. The grace of God is released upon us through the words we speak. The words we speak do not only influence our outer world, but they also affect the most important part of our inner worlds; Both feed on each other. It is like a circle, however, what is on the inside is what matters the most. Why do I say that?

Simply put... you live with you. Your thoughts and your emotions are felt by you and only you. Others can only relate through their understanding of what the emotions feel like based on their own experiences. However, when you feel a certain emotion, you feel it alone. The process takes place within your own body. So you need to ensure that your internal world is a place you are happy to live in- a safe, peaceful and trustworthy space. It is also expressed in various schools of thought surrounding the power of words and positivity, that what you project and experience externally is a direct reflection of what is going on internally.

Definitely watch the video below, to learn ways you can gain better control over what you allow to take root in your mind. Also set some reflection time aside for yourself using the questions below the video to guide you.

My invitation to you

Take inventory of the information you are consuming.

-What music are you listening to?

-What kind of TV shows are you watching and what information are you exposed to?

-What kind of conversations are you engaging in?

-How do you feel during and after the interaction with the show/movie/song/person?

Do leave a comment as I would love to hear of your experiences and take with regards to the above topic.

I appreciate you greatly and thank you for spending your time with me.

Until the next one... take care!
