Can your comfort zone really kill you?

I recently watched Luvvie Ajayi’s TED talk, “Get comfortable with being uncomfortable”. For me, it is one of the best TED talks ever. Luvvie speaks of the importance surrounding making conscious decisions that represent your truth- which doesn’t have to mean calling out people in power, politically or otherwise. It starts within our communities…our homes even. It’s the “little things”, be it positive or negative, if this goes unchecked, it grows bigger and bigger with time.
I can’t help but think its one of the reasons many of us feel stuck in life.
This got me thinking about how this relates to our day to day lives. Shifting from one state to another, from uncomfortable to comfortable or vise versa. We are taught look down on “comfort zones” and how they get in the way of achieving goals aka “noteworthy” achievements. I can’t help but think its one of the reasons many of us feel stuck in life.
Due to the conditions that are deeply rooted within us, we tend to look at the little activities we take part in daily as something not worthy of acknowledgement. For example, if it doesn’t get you thousands of followers and likes on social media, or a pat on the head from someone seemingly higher up than you, then you feel like a failure and are not doing much in life. Then you are probably caged in your own comfort zone and you need to get out of it, Right?
Penny for my thoughts?
I like to look at it this way. Everything you’ve accomplished in life so far, on one level or another you had to move out of your comfort zone to accomplish it. It might not have seemed like or felt like it but you where not in your comfort zone.
It’s a jungle out there.
So where did the line get drawn between the “little daily acts” and the “bigger things” that we would need to stress over.
Leaving the house every day to go out into this concrete jungle we live in. Not having a clue as to what awaits you is in my opinion, moving out of your comfort zone. So where did the line get drawn between the “little daily acts” and the “bigger things” that we would need to stress over. When looking at how you approach and accomplish the “bigger things” could be just as easy as leaving your house in the morning. Wouldn’t life be easier with the realization that it’s the little things that amount to the bigger things.
We need to go back to basics people!
Crawl before you walk, walk before you run and do so with eyes, ears and mind wide open and receptive to lessons every moment you encounter has to offer. In my eyes, there is nothing wrong with comfort zones. We constantly move in and out of comfort zones everyday, because in them are lessons to be learned simply because they are meant to. It's in that comfort zone you learn which direction you want to steer your life towards. Stop listening to anyone that tells you otherwise.
I bet if we all, little by little make a conscious decision to choose the messages we are exposed to daily, we would change our lives for the better. So get comfortable, learn and live.
